Tendulkar’s son was also called up for Mumbai’s ODI team
The name ‘Arjun Tendulkar’ has been known in Indian cricket for a long time. Although he is the son of the best batsman in the history of the country, Arjun has chosen bowling. Whatever happens, when you are the child of a famous father, whatever you do, comes up for discussion. He made his cricketing debut in the middle of this month. Arjun has played two T20 matches for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Now it is the turn of Abhishek in List A.
Sachin Tendulkar himself did not fulfill his dream of becoming a fast bowler. But Arjun has walked that path. The 21-year-old left-arm pacer has been called up for the Vijay Hazare Trophy preliminary squad camp. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on its website yesterday announced the names of 104 players who were called up for the tournament camp in the domestic list. Apart from Arjun, Prithvi Shaw is also on that list.
Many young cricketers can’t handle the pressure of famous family names. What will happen in the case of Arjun Tendulkar cannot be said. However, Arjun is far behind his father in running. Tendulkar made his international debut at the age of 18. It has been 21 years since Arjun got a call in recognized cricket. However, even though it started slowly, he has gained experience of playing with star cricketers. Arjun also has the experience of bowling in the nets of the Indian team.
Arjun made his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on January 15. The debut for Mumbai, however, did not go well. He got down to number 11 so he didn’t get a chance to bat. He got wickets in bowling but gave 34 runs in 3 overs and the bowling quota was not met. Opponent Haryana came to the end of the match 14 balls ago. Mumbai’s fortunes did not change in Arjun’s second match either. On that day, the team got a chance to bat due to a batting disaster. He got his first run in recognized cricket on the same day. After 3 runs from 8 balls, his quota has been fulfilled in bowling.
The team needed to bowl stingily as they scored only 94 runs. But his teammates were able to do that but Arjun failed. He got 1 wicket in 4 overs but gave 33 runs. Mumbai also lost by 8 wickets. Mumbai finished last in their group. That is why Arjun Tendulkar’s start has been disappointing.
Mumbai, however, is not losing hope in such a performance. That is why Arjun has been called to the camp of Vijay Hazare. Although it is not a Ranji Trophy this time, it has been decided to hold a List A tournament. Mumbai Vijay Hazare, who was dropped from the Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is already starting the camp. And there Arjun and Prithvi Shaw got the call. Apart from Prithviraj Shaw, who was dropped from the first Test of the series on the tour of Australia, Shreyas Ayyar, Shivam Dubey, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashsvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhaval Kulkarni are also in the camp.
All the selected players have been asked to attend the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy on February 1.
